Luke Littler Sets His Sights on Darts Greatness
A New Era in Darts
Luke Littler, at just 18 years old, is making waves in the darts world, showing remarkable talent and ambition. After recently being crowned world No. 1 and clinching his second World Darts Championship title, Littler has set an audacious goal: to break Phil Taylor’s longstanding record of 3,343 days at the pinnacle of the sport. This record, held by a true darts legend, has become a target for Littler as he aims to carve his name even deeper into the darts history books.
An Unassailable Lead
Currently, Littler is guaranteed to hold the world No. 1 ranking until at least October of this year. This is attributable to his impressive lead of £1.59 million over his closest rival, Luke Humphries, in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) rankings, which are determined by prize money won in the past two years. Littler first unseated Humphries from the top spot after a stunning victory at the Grand Slam of Darts last November, marking the beginning of what appears to be a new chapter in the sport.
Aiming for Immortality
In a recent exclusive interview with Sky Sports News, Littler reflected on the gravity of his achievements so far and the legacy he dreams of building. “It’s crazy what I’ve done. I’m in the clear for world No. 1. Phil Taylor had, I don’t even know, three or four thousand days at world No. 1,” he said. He emphasized his determination: “That’s another bit of history I want to create—to beat Phil at the No. 1 spot and stay there for as long as possible.”
Overcoming Challenges
Littler’s journey to success hasn’t been without its challenges. One notable incident occurred during the fourth round of the World Darts Championship, where he faced Rob Cross. Despite some spectators expressing their support for Cross, Littler managed to keep his composure, quipping, “Am I bothered? Really, am I bothered?! Really not bothered!” His candid and humorous response showcased his resilience, turning the crowd’s reactions into a motivational force rather than a setback.
Reflecting on that turbulent match, he later acknowledged the emotional weight of the moment. “There wasn’t enough time to think about it. I was very emotional, but I got over the line somehow against the fans that night.”
Domination on the Horizon
Littler’s aspirations extend beyond just holding the No. 1 spot. In addition to his back-to-back world titles, he secured five of the seven ranked major titles in 2025, including the UK Open, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam, and Players Championship. The only trophies that elude him now are the World Masters and the European Championship, both of which he is eager to add to his collection.
“I want to dominate everything. Obviously, I want to try and win everything. But the Masters and the Europeans, they’re the two ones that I really want to go for this year. I’m going to come hunting them down,” Littler declared.
Staying Grounded
Despite his rapid rise, Littler remains grounded, emphasizing that fame will not change him. “I’m just an 18-year-old boy who is competitive when it comes to darts. I won’t change for anyone,” he stated. His parents have been instrumental in keeping him humble, advising him to stay true to himself, a mantra he intends to uphold in both his personal and professional life.
A Bright Future Ahead
Numerous sports figures and celebrities have reached out to congratulate Littler on his astounding accomplishments, including Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens. While he cherishes these accolades, he consistently reiterates his desire to remain himself, both on and off the stage.
As the world watches his journey, Littler is not merely focused on accolades. He aspires to build a legacy that includes memorable titles and spectacular performances. With many years ahead of him, the darts community is excited to witness what this rising star will achieve next.
